The step-by-step On-Site? Alcohol process
On-Site Alcohol is intended for the rapid detection of alcohol in saliva or urine. On-Site Alcohol is recommended for professional use only and is not intended for over-the-counter sales to the general public. Professional use includes applications in health care, corrections, and drug treatment.
On-Site Alcohol test can be used with either urine or saliva samples.
Note: The On-Site Alcohol test should be performed immediately after opening, and at room temperature, (15 – 30 °C or 59 – 85 °F).
1. Open the OnSite Alcohol test card by peeling the lid from left to right. Discard the desiccant packet. Record specimen I.D. on the textured area marked "I.D." on the front of the test card (a permanent marker works best).
Saliva testing
1. Using the small transfer pipet enclosed in the kit, draw reagent from the reagent well at the left side of the test card.
WARNING: Avoid Detection Reagent contact with eyes, skin and mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse immediately and thoroughly with water. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. |
2. Transfer the reagent from the reagent well to the detection reagent pad/well designated "<Result." Hold the reagent pipet vertically, and avoid bubbles when applying one (1) drop of the reagent to the reagent well. Allow the drop to form and fall into the well.
| |
3. Use the disposable swab enclosed in the kit to collect the saliva specimen.
Note: For reliable results, the disposable swab foam head must be thoroughly saturated with saliva. This process takes 10-20 seconds.
| |
4. Transfer the saturated swab to the test card, and insert the swab vertically into the specimen well designated "<Sample."
5. The swab must remain in this position for the duration of the test. Read results in two minutes after specimen application.

Results
Positive -A purple positive sign at two minutes or less indicates an ethanol concentration of 0.02% w/v or greater.
Negative- The absence of a purple positive sign at two minutes means no alcohol detected (or alcohol levels less than 0.02% w/v). Reagent pad remains pale yellow.

Urine testing
1. Using the small transfer pipet, pick up reagent from the reagent well at the left side of the test card.
| |
2. Transfer the reagent from the reagent well to the detection reagent pad/well designated "<Result." Hold the reagent pipet vertically, and avoid bubbles when applying one (1) drop of the reagent to the reagent well. Allow the drop to form and fall into the well.
| |
3. Use the large disposable pipet to pick up the urine specimen from the specimen container.
| |
4. Transfer one (1) drop of urine specimen to the specimen well designated ">Sample" on the test card. Hold the pipet vertically. Allow the drop to form and fall into the well.
5. Read results two minutes after specimen application.

Result interpretation
On-Site Alcohol results with saliva provide a means of estimating whether blood alcohol concentration may be greater than 0.02% w/v (20 mg/dL weight/volume ratio). Positive On-Site results with urine are indicative of recent alcohol ingestion but do not necessarily indicate intoxication, impairment, or blood-alcohol concentrations over 0.02% w/v (20 mg/dL).
Confirmation of On-Site Alcohol results using gas chromatography on whole blood is recommended if blood alcohol concentration must be determined.
