Pharmaceutical Applications

Chem Elut cartridges are ideal for converting labor-intensive liquid/liquid extractions into high-throughput sample processing. Benefits to performing liquid/liquid extractions with Chem Elut are:

  • Emulsion-free sample processing
  • Fast and automatable
  • High reproducibility

Methods are available for a wide variety of analytes (click on Applications link under Support & Resources), or use a general procedure applicable for many moderately polar to nonpolar compounds.

Purification Applications

Chem Elut and bulk Hydromatrix are also useful in purification of synthesis mixtures. They are routinely used to scrub reaction mixtures of water-soluble reaction by-products, excess reagents, and impurities.

High-Throughput Bioanalysis

The benefits of Solid-Supported Liquid/Liquid Extraction (SLE) found in Chem Elut and Hydromatrix products are now available in formats designed for interfacing with high-throughput bioanalytical instrumentation.

Combilute 96-Well Chem Elut Plate

This 96-well version of our popular Chem Elut tubes allows fast processing of bioanalytical samples – 96 wells at a time. Combilute will accommodate up to 500 μL of buffered samples (plasma, serum, urine, and other biofluids) per well. Follow the guidelines for standard SLE (Chem Elut) methods for selecting the appropriate buffer. Then, process the plate as follows:

  1. Position the Combilute plate on top of a clean 96-well deep-well collection plate secured to your liquid handler’s platform. There is no need for a vacuum source, but manifold bottoms are often helpful to secure the plate in place for processing.
  2. Dispense buffered sample to each well. There is no need to cap any unused wells.
  3. Allow 3-5 minutes for sample to adsorb onto the sorbent.
  4. Elut by dispensing 2 x 1 mL of a water-immiscible solvent to each well. Allow solvent to flow by gravity only.

Tabless tubes

This format of Chem Elut allows close spacing of 3 or 6 mL tubes in a 24 or 48-position tightly packed configuration. Standard tubes (with flanges) cannot be used in these configurations. Tubes are available with up to 1 g Hydromatrix for extracting up to 2 mL biofluid sample.
