Polar - modified Phase
Polaris phases are based on ultra-pure silica to which
polar modified alkyl chains are bonded. The resultant
packing material contains a surface, which is easily "wetted" with
polar eluents and shows unique selectivity for polar compounds. Furthermore,
the polar groups shield reactive silanols from polar silanophilic compounds,
which improves peak symmetry. |
Superior and Balanced Performance
Instead of the phase collapse commonly encountered with standard
reversed phase columns, Polaris bonded phases remain fully extended
in the aqueous phase, allowing increased yet mild interaction
between sample and bonded phase. As such, Varian Polaris columns
provide stable retention - even in 100% aqueous conditions -
with excellent peak shape and selectivity.
The unusually durable
Varian Polaris phase is able to withstand high-impact conditions
of fast gradient applications, thereby extending
column life. Its robustness makes it extremely well suited in high-throughput
applications, such as mass drug screening procedures.
Flexible Chromatography
Varian Polaris comprises a wide range of products for high-quality,
flexible chromatography. Polaris packing material is available
in particle sizes of 3, 5, 10, 15, and 25 micron. All particle
sizes are available as pre-packed columns ranging from 30 mm
to 250 mm length and from 1.0 mm to 50 mm ID. The 10 and 15-micron
particle sizes are available as bulk packing material.
Polaris can
be used in the pH range from 1.5 to 10.0, and with mobile phase
conditions of 0% up to 100% aqueous. A number of phases
are available to suit all your chromatography needs. Generally
speaking, C18-A is the most universal phase whereas C8-Ether
and C18-Ether are often the best choice for hard resolve organic
acids.
The C18-Amide delivers maximum retention for the most polar basic
compounds.
One of our latest innovations, Polaris C18-B, is a second
generation phase with excellent batch-to-batch reproducibility,
enhanced retention of the polar compounds, improved peak shapes
for basic analytes, and further
improved stability.
Quality Control and Guarantee Performance
All Varian Polaris columns are produced with careful attention
to detail. All the raw materials are sourced, validated and tested
for purity and consistency. Discriminating in process testing methods
ensure every step is identical to the last one. Each column is
subjected to a series of selectivity - and stability tests to guarantee
the column performance. These stringent specifications mean that
your methods can be reproduced, column after column, batch after
batch, and from laboratory to laboratory.
