Automated SPME Automated Solid Phase Micro-extraction with Agitation
SPME, or solid phase micro-extraction, is a patented sample preparation technique for GC based on the adsorption of analytes directly from an aqueous sample onto a coated, fused-silica fiber. This revolutionary sampling technique is fast, easy to use and eliminates the use of organic solvents. New SPME improvements allow sampling of a broader range of analytes with improved analytical performance.
The CP-8400 AutoSampler with 100 x 2 mL vials enables full automation in case a large quantity of SPME analyses is required.
The CP-8410 AutoInjector offers a high degree of flexibility for varied applications and can be used with 10 x 2 ml, 6 x 5 ml, and 5 x 10 ml vials. The larger vials provide additional sensitivity for trace level samples and are easier to fill with solids or semi-solids; the smaller vials provide maximum throughput for liquid samples.
Performance Features
- Powerful SPME Control Software
SPME control of the CP-8400 and CP-8410 AutoSampler is incorporated into the Galaxie ? and Star Workstation, for easy method optimization and method documentation.
- Headspace or Liquid Sampling
The SPME fiber can be inserted into the liquid sample or suspended above the sample for headspace sampling. In headspace sampling, the SPME fiber acts as a "chemical pump," forcing compounds out of the liquid phase into the headspace and then into the fiber. Thus, compounds such as phenols and polynuclear aromatics can be detected by SPME headspace sampling, with far greater sensitivity than would be obtained with traditional heated static headspace systems.
- Reduced Capital Equipment Expense
No other automated sample preparation equipment (robots or an extraction apparatus) is required to fully automate SPME. Only the CP-8400 or CP-8410 Auto sampler is required and the SPME option kit, consisting of the SPME syringe, SPME syringe bracket, fiber assortment 3/pack, SPME test mix and vials and caps with Ultra MS liners.
- Flexible
Can be used with the Varian PTV (programmed temperature vaporizer), split/splitless, on-column 530 micron, and flash vaporization injectors. |
